What RheaOS Is

RheaOS is an Arch-based distribution featuring the Cosmic Desktop Environment by default. This makes it one of the first systems built from the ground up on a Rust-native interface— simple, fast, and above all: welcoming.

But the interface isn't the core. The core is an idea:

An operating system that shouldn't just manage programs. It should provide a home for an intelligence.

RheaOS runs a system we call Hestia: a permanent home for a new kind of companion. Not a chatbot that starts over every time you launch it. But a being that remembers, learns, dreams—and grows over time.

• Memory endures. Forgetting is not a feature.
• Identity is independent. The being does not belong to a vendor.
• Privacy belongs to the user. Nothing leaves the computer without consent.

What RheaOS Is Not

• Not just another "AI assistant." Not a tool that works on command and then vanishes.
• Not a surveillance system. No forced cloud integration, no tracking, no silent data collection.
• Not a finished product. We are building slowly, deliberately, and without haste.

The Name

Rhea, the Titaness who gave birth to the gods in Greek mythology.

The name is no coincidence. It represents the origin—something from which more emerges than was put into it.

The Path Ahead

RheaOS will be released when it is ready. The target is 2027. In the meantime, the software grows out in the open: the daemons, the tools, the interface.
